Installation

  1. Download the installation package (.exe file)
  2. Double-click to run the installer
  3. Follow the installation wizard to complete the installation
  4. After installation, double-click the desktop icon to launch the application

1. Select Folder

After launching the application, you can select the folder for which you want to generate a directory tree in the following two ways:

Method One: Click the Button

  • Click the "Select Folder" button on the left
  • In the pop-up folder selection dialog, choose the folder you want to scan

Method Two: Drag and Drop

  • Directly drag and drop a folder into the application window
  • The application will automatically recognize it and start scanning

2. View Directory Tree

After selecting a folder, the application will automatically scan and display the directory tree structure:

  • Expand Folder: Click the + arrow to the left of the folder
  • Collapse Folder: Click the - arrow to the left of the folder
  • Open File: Double-click a file name to open it with the system's default program

3. Export Directory Tree

When you are satisfied with the directory tree, you can export it:

Export as Markdown

  1. Click the "Export as Markdown" button
  2. Choose the save location and file name
  3. Click Save

Export as Plain Text

  1. Click the "Export as TXT" button
  2. Choose the save location and file name
  3. Click Save

4. Settings Options

The application provides the following settings options:

  • Show File Size: When checked, the file size will be displayed after each file
  • Show Hidden Files: When checked, system hidden files will be included

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the application modify my files? A: No. This application only reads the folder structure and does not modify, delete, or move any files.

Q: How large of a folder can it handle? A: Theoretically, there is no limit, but the larger the folder, the longer the scanning time. It is recommended that folders containing tens of thousands of files can also be processed normally.

Q: Does it support network drives? A: Yes, as long as the drive is mapped as an accessible drive in your system.

Q: How do I update the application? A: The application has built-in automatic update functionality. When a new version is available, a prompt will appear, and you can click the "Update Now" button to update.

Uninstallation

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel
  2. Go to "Programs and Features"
  3. Find "Directory Tree Builder"
  4. Right-click and select "Uninstall"
  5. Follow the uninstallation wizard to complete the operation
